Creating a new Year field will require using two browser windows, one with the existing Live Shop and another one with this new shop where we will add the fields
So, we’ll start in the old shop:
1. & 2. Go to Products -> Manufacturers
3. Click Edit link next to the Manufacturer for which you’d like to add the years
In the new shop go to:
4. Custom Fields -> Product Fields
5. Click New Field
6. Write the word « Year » in Field Label field
7. Choose « Select » in Field Type field
8. In Unique Key field type « years_mx_ » then from old shop copy and paste the Model for which you’d like to add the years then again type « _full_kit » at the end (check that the letters are transformed to lowercase and spaces/dashes to underscores automatically – otherwise error will occur later)
9. Click Required option
10. Click Conditions option
11. Click Add Condition button
12. In first condition field click and select Other field option at the end of the list
13. In second condition field click and select the option that starts with « Model – model_mx_ » then matches the brand you are adding the current year for and the kit type you chose above at the step 8
14. In the 3rd condition field click and choose « equals »
15. Copy and paste the Model name from old shop. Make sure the letters are automatically converted to lowercase and spaces/dashes to underscores.
16. Click Add Option button to add a first option
17. Copy and paste the first year range from the old shop to the new one in both Label and Unique Key fields. Make sure the letters are automatically converted to lowercase and spaces/dashes to underscores in the Unique Key field
Follow the steps 17 and 18 from above until all year ranges exists in the Options section on new shop.
Scroll down and:
18. In the Private Note field copy and paste the name of the Model from old shop then add test » years – full kit » – these are useful later for searching this field
19. Add the text « Choose your bike year » in the Description field
Scroll back up and:
20. Click Enabled option
21 Click Submit button
22. Make sure the only message displayed is « Field created. »
Then go back to Custom Fields -> Product fields screen and drag the newly created year below the field Year with description « ===== Just a hint, to choose Model first ===== ». If that field is out of range just drag the new one over the screen edge, page will scroll automatically.
Go to front end and check the year in a product of the same brand by selecting the Model and Kit Type that matches the ones used above.
Continue adding years by scrolling to the next Model in the same Manufacturer in the old shop and by adding a New Field in the new shop – then repeat the steps from this guide.
For « backgrounds_only » years just duplicate a « full_kit » year and only change the following parts. Then save and drag the Year down under the Year Hint same as in step 23 above.
